If EA is the publisher never buy a new title for at least 3 - 4 months. That way all they bugs will get worked out. Seriously, so many times I have bought a EA game and couldn't play it for one reason or another until EA released a patch.
I have been playing C&C games since the first one released on DOS. Anyone remember Dune? Came from Westwood and basically grew into C&C. I like the RA series it was a different twist. RA2 wasn't bad but didn't play it online though.
I bought C&C 3 and played through most of it, but honestly it was likely playing Generals with updated graphics. EA just sucks! (Did I say that already?)
EA is to gaming what Microsoft is to operating systems.......
I hope RA3 gets improvements. I read a recent article in PC Gamer and it sounded like RA 3 had some potential. Hopefully the bad beta will show some light on the situation but with EA involved my hopes are small.

(Don't blame him, up till that point he had played games like Decent and Doom). And I own multiple copies of every CNC game. But you do realize that most of Westwood left when EA purchased them right? They started another company to work on RTS games but I forgot the name. I just read it on Wikipedia when I was board in school one day.

So far they're turned out some decent games, but nothing on par with C&C yet.

| | Re: Red Alert 3 Well, I finally got my hands on the RA3 Beta yesterday...
To be honest, I rather like the game. Granted, I've not played Red Alert 2 in a ridiculously long time and I never played Red Alert 2 online, so I don't know how well this game fulfills the desires of a long-time Red Alert fan looking for something both similar and new online-wise.
It's odd, however... It just doesn't feel like the sequel I expected it to be. There's a whole lot more micromanagement involved in this game for me than in C&C 3, as the economy is ridiculously slow (>_>) and pretty much every unit has an interesting secondary ability. That, and the way each faction builds/techs up is entirely different. Fun stuff, and it's definitely a new experience for me, but it's not Red Alert as I remember it. It takes an awkwardly long time to tech up- so much so that you're really limited on the fun you can have when you get to third-tier units unless you're completely dominating the map's ore nodes.
I honestly wish that the Beta had a skirmish mode, and I hope, for everyone's sake, that they don't screw up Red Alert 3's storyline. I like the game so far, but I can't see it as it is now being a stand-alone title that I'd be willing to buy. Hopefully the balance changes that they keep making will ultimately lead to something nice. |

Oh well RA3 = Soviets went back in time and removed Einstein and now everything that happened before has never happened now and the Allies don't have chrono technology but they still have the chronosphere. Also despite the fact that RA3 will take place about the same time as RA2 (just in a different "time") everyone will have better technology and we are supposed to nod and say "Yes this makes sense."

And here I was hoping for a sequel.
Ten figurative bucks says they play off the Chronosphere by saying Einstein was killed after he'd already made the blueprints. -_- |

At this point the only good C&C game would be the one that ignores anything made after Tiberian Sun and then links the RA storyline with the tiberium story.

| | Re: Red Alert 3 Just dug something up on EA's forums that has to be one of the most entertaining things I've read about this game yet... Support Forums : Dolphins that fly! ...
...That's right, dolphins are actually considered flying units when they jump out of the water. And as such, MiGs can shoot them out of the sky. XD |
