To be honest, i'm torn. On the first hand, i'm excited they're bringing back the game and not whoring it up. This is what Titan Quest should have been, which is what it was trying to be, I guess. Diablo II with increased graphics, content, story, and gameplay mechanics? yes please. Just because it's a simple game, hack and slash, doesn't mean it's not fun.
I'm damn excited to travel through the game with my room mates. It's gonna be badass.
On the other hand, if there is anyone who can take a great thing and fuck it up, its blizzard.
When i was watching the trailer, the narrator mentioned "and now for the best part of Diablo III - LOOT!" and i immediately remembered that these guys brought us WoW and i almost closed the trailer.
As long as they don't focus so intently on loot, and more on gameplay, i'll be happy.

They did say that it will be using Battle.net during the Demo

Trying to find better weapons/gear is what made D2 what it is. The gameplay was pretty much just clicking on stuff - what kept people coming back was a) leveling up skills and b) finding loot.
don't get me wrong, i don't see much of a chance that i won't get it when it comes out (5 years from now), but let's not kid ourselves.

We musta played a vastly different game then, cause I didn't focus on loot. I remember going to my cousin's house with my computer and we'd start up new characters and play through the game - every time. If i was focused on loot, I'd just play my old characters and keep gearing him up.
No, loot was more just a catalyst to the fun. The gear dropped so I could play better, not so I could get more gear; vis a vi WoW. Maybe it's just me, but heading into a boss room and having to run or think of strategic ways of killing him, or a mini boss, or getting swarmed by thousands of pigmys was fun as hell. Not to mention the frustration of not being able to kill a certain monster.
When I was watching the long trailer on the website, I kept thinking to myself, this is like a digitized version of DnD. An adventure.
It was never just Click and Slash.

well right, the first time through, it's a blast, but it's pretty short. after you beat it, how much did you continue to play on bnet?

I never played on Bnet. People were always lame and would try and kill ya, not to mention they always had hacked items, so it wasn't about the gear then either. I always played with either my dad, siblings, cousins, or friends from school.

ah, that's where we differ then. you should try bnet - it's a lot of fun, but it becomes very much about the items (as you strive towards a lv 99 char). you can still do the games where it's just you and friends. i usually was real big into it for a month or two and then got bored for about a year, then got back in, etc etc.

When I stopped playing, I had a lvl 89 Barbarian with GRANDfathersword and some odd +600% magic find. I was kick ass. Never hacked, traded a few times, but found godfather on my own. I could finish a Mephisto run in about two minutes, but kill him in about three swings. Hell mode was kick ass when you finally get past lvl 70. But then that damned patch 2 years ago made easy the same as hell mode and hell was 5 times harder and I kept getting the shit kicked outta me.

I had to redownload my games VIA the Blizzard store and they are having a big problem with US East accounts right now. My CD key works for US West (Lame) but not for East. Seems a lot of people are having this issue. I lost my CD's a couple of weeks ago, and couldn't play without them. I've got an 87 pally and 86 necro on east, with a 57 sorc on west.

I originally stopped playing right before rune words were the big thing. My oh my, how things have changed. I can remember running around with a Windforce on my Zon and being supreme. Hah, not anymore. Oh, and the Buriza pierce effect doesn't work with guided arrow anymore. QQ

I'll play!

Ugh - I got to buy those games again? I sold my discs to Gamestop 3 years ago along with 40 some odd other games I needed to get rid of.
