Post db_deathmatch

This is a quick map I made, it has one glitch that causes the right platform near the red (Maybe blu) base, outside of the fence, to disappear.

DB_Deathmatch
Features
• Middle CP
• Pit in middle of map. Beware!
• Log's leading across to other team's side, with a medipack in the middle.
• 2 Rocket launchers for each team, up to three rockets each RL.

Changelog (Found in the Readme)
Code:
This is for use on ONLY voogru servers unless you have valid written permission from me or Voogru.

Changelog
1.0.1 --- 1/09/10

• Initial release

1.0.2 --- 1/11/10

• Updated the file in the zip to be correct, it originally was the wrong map. (Oops)
• Used voogru's BSP protecter to Protect the map from stealer's without permission :D
1.05 --- 1/16/10

• Remade the sides.
• Remade the middle.
• More accurate tree brushing.
• Fixed no respawn, but now its full arena.
• Added new ways to die in the pit.
• Changed sky to stormy theme.
• Made map breathe a bit more, added a little more 3d skybox.
• Skipped 3 tenths of a version. :D

To Do

• Fix arena mode, it now does everything arena...

From the initial screen shots it looks like db_stadium but just outside. Is there something in your map that makes it more unique?

I dont know which one DB stadium is, but I think I've got a pretty good Idea.

If the map im thinking about is correct, then mine is similar to that one, but it is outdoors.

But then again, arent alot of db Maps pretty similar? Not to say most of them are remakes of others.
The goal of this map was to make it feel open, and breath, I dont mean to steal the spotlight from the other map, but I've worked pretty long on this.

In reality, this is db_stadium with 2 walls missing.

db_Stadium was the first map I ever played in the DB server, so I decided to base my first map off of it.

Pretty sure all db maps are the same. Flat surface with maybe a few platforms or place to fall and die. There are a few that are unique though.

Updated:

I've used voogru's BSP protect program to Protect any DB map stealer's out there, To make sure nobody but voogru can use this map.
I've also updated the .BSP in the zip file, because there was a different map in there, not this one, oops :/

Not sure where to start with this The rocket spawners don't work, as no rockets come out. Players respawn after dying, so the rounds pretty much never end (the map also does not end when the timer reaches 0:00 and a round finishes. Never seen that before). The geometry you put at the bottom of the pit allows players to fall into the pit, but stand on the rocks to stay alive indefinitely. Also, it is possible to be airblasted over the chain fences and get outside the map area. I have to agree that it does pretty much look like you copied stadium block for block, adding only some trees and an outdoor environment, it really needs some defining features and a bit of a layout change to not look like a direct ripoff of stadium.

Pretty negative paragraph right there, but just trying to debug for you.

Use one of those layers that if you touch it it takes off like 1000 damage (totally forgot what it was called), change it to arena (it's either somewhere in the settings, or it's another entity, of which I fogot the name of) and put something that it'll seperate it from stadium (besides, you even have the damn random little cylinder thing in the middle of the pit like stadium).

Somewhat contradictory, but I can say that if you've played there for some time (at least before I moved back to regular TF2), the maps are pretty different.

Why wouldnt the rocket spawners work? And how did you test it?

EDIT: Aren't alot of DB maps ripoff's of others? Places to die, pits to cross.

My main point there is, Make a layout of a map, put a few places to cross, add a dangerous zone, and some dodgeball spawners and you have yourself a DB map, I will admit that I tried to use a layout similar to stadium, but at least I didnt open the thing and copy it inch to inch, my main goal was to replicate stadium in a "Small outside enviroment." If you dont like me doing that then fine.

Im not trying to argue with you, I actually see good points in your post that I will fix.

Also, how would I know if the rocket spawners worked, voogru didnt release the mod, therefore I cant really "test" the spawners, just the map, there also really isnt a tutorial for the map making, only a sample map, and I did what it said in there.

P.S. Thanks for helping test the map anyways, I'll try to fix everything you said.

I don't know what specifically causes them not to spawn, I only tested it live on the server like we do with all the other tests. I think some other mappers here had the non-spawning rocket problem too, so they would probably be more help than I could be. It's fair enough that you wanted just to put a different flavor on stadium, but people are really expecting a good amount of differences between maps, especially from different mappers.

As for trying to differentiate the map, just try to tweak some of the major aspects that seem identical to stadium. Make the center pit a different shape, fill it with water, add more than one pit maybe, I don't know. A different method of getting across the pit (instead of the same logs as stadium) would help a bit, too. Maybe get rid of the center point and make a single, wider bridge? Maybe a bridge that breaks, or an arched bridge that branches out in different directions or something. Just throwing ideas out.

All that depends on whether or not you really just want to make another flavor of stadium, which might be fine on it's own merit; but you might want to contact ShadowBee to make sure he is okay with it.

To do-

• Revamp sides *
• Change mid to oval *
• Change skybox *
• Fix lighting *

• No respawn
• Test
• Upload screenies

All things marked with *'s are done.

EDIT: Ill be attaching the vmf and bsp to this post, if anyone would be nice enough to fix the map that would be great, I've been working on it for three hours and cant find a solution.`

Alright, I added a bunch of stuff, now all I need to do is fix this arena thing, which I cant figure out for the life of me. Once the arena part is done, I'll move this map onto v2.

Don't think anyone will be crossing those logs if they have to jump up to the ledge to get off. Your pretty much dead if caught.

Map is still looking way too generic. Needs a special touch to separate it from stadium. Also make sure there is enough space so it doesnt get crouded in near full house scenarios.

Small suggestion: Maybe make small ramps that launch you across the pit instead of logs. Just something to make it more unique.
