| | Re: Windows 7 (Discussion) My Audigy 2 ZS sound card was the only thing for me that had compatibility issues with 7, though I blame Creative (like many others) for that more than windows. Audio works fine but the mic input doesn't work at all, ended up using my motherboard mic port. My 10+ year old scanner and printer were detected and work just fine, though.
edit: I also have had zero bsod's or unwanted shutdowns since installing 7. I usually don't restart for a week or so, using sleep mode when I'm not home.

7 is probably the most rock solid OS MS has ever released. | Seriously? I've encountered quite a bit of blue screens and the like. It is getting better as developers cater their drivers to the OS, but XP still beats it in terms of reliability (and I think the reason for that is that XP has been around a hell of a lot longer).
On my computer at home I have a Radeon 4850, and I will frequently get BSODs running the latest drivers. Granted I have overclocked that card to hell and back, but it doesn't do this when running in XP.
They should really give us RC folks that submitted a lot of feedback 7 for free. May is when the RC will start shutting down ever 2 hours, and I'm not really ok with that yet. I'm not *quite* yet ready to buy. |

| | Re: Windows 7 (Discussion) What is your specs? If you are overclocking don't cry about stability. I haven't ran into any compatibility problems other than having to find a new version of Alcohol 120 and even then I hardly used it to begin with. My video card is actually going out and under XP sometimes the drivers would unload. In 7 if that happens the drivers will automatically load back up and I can keep playing. The only thing I'm adjusting to is how 7 shares folders and adjusts the permissions. Seems like it was just yesterday it seemed like XP was innovative with how easy it was to setup small networks. 7 has improved this in some areas and bloated in others but then I skipped over Vista and went straight to 7 so maybe I've just got to get used to it. |

I failed to mention that it is persistent even after I revert my settings to default. I'm not saying 7 is to blame here, but it is something I have experienced unique to the operating system. |

| | Re: Windows 7 (Discussion) It could be faulty memory. Linux & XP use far less memory than 7. Being that, your ram could have a bad sector that doesn't show up until 7 caches items to your memory. Try running memtest & see if any problems arise. |

| | Re: Windows 7 (Discussion) I just installed two days ago. I had a couple of problems to work out with my mouse cutting off and on, as well as the display drivers installing incorrectly twice. Other than that, windows 7 is running good for me. |

| | Re: Windows 7 (Discussion) I'm still mostly enjoying it, though there are a number of small interface issues that bug me. Certain things they changed from XP supposedly to make it easier to use or better looking, but which actually serve to make it take way more clicks to get the same thing done.
For example, why on earth did they change the Control Panel to be listed alphabetically from left to right instead of from the top down? Everything else is listed top down, but I can't find things in CP in a decent amount of time because I'm used to reading Windows from top down not left to right!!!!

An interesting tip if you haven't already seen it...
Create a "New Folder" on your desktop and rename it to "<name> .{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}"
Without the " and replacing <name> with your preferred name for the shortcut. This will link to a lot of functions that are stored in a lot of different locations all over the place and put them in a single list.. not sure how handy it will be for you guys, but it's a nice option to have. |
