Default playing on a laptop

I just bought my first windows based laptop, prior to that was a powerbook G4, for school and photography and some gaming. I love my desktop and it's pretty decked out, but once this semester starts up I probably wont be home as much.

I've never gamed on a laptop before, so I'm a bit skeptical but we'll see. Anyone else play on a laptop?

oh and this is what I bought(delivery date is 08/28/08):
HP Pavilion dv5t Review

with the 1680x1050 screen + 512 vid card + new ocz 4gb ram

I've got a somewhat mediocre laptop by some peoples' standards (3gb ram, 128mb vid card, 2.0ghz core 2 duo) and I couldn't be happier considering the money I paid for it. The only thing for me is that there was a curve trying to find a comfortable way to play. I'm still having to mess with the sensitivity settings with my wireless mouse so I can actually snipe well.

I play on laptop too, but mine sucks. Need money to build desktop, but I won't make the kind of money to start for another few months. but yea, that video card is pretty nice, it should work well.

I've found that this helps greatly since laptop keyboards leave a lot to be desired...

Speakin of the mini keyboard, anyone ever seen the "ergonomic" keyboard that actually has WoW commands on the button (not keystrokes or shortcuts, actual WoW commands)? Just a heads up if anyone here has one of those and I find out, I'm shunning you for the rest of my life.

Back to laptops, the 512 video card should be more then enough to run most games. Thats what I use on my PC and I can run crysis flawlessly.

i game from a laptop, so does villian, most importiant things to note, Get a cheap cradle/fan combo, it's not worth roasting your boys playing and if you have poor ventilation it'll overheat and cut off, i had this problem for a while.

Other then that invest in a corded mouse reallytrying to do wireless will just create lag time. i still use the normal keyboard though. can't wait to get my desktop running again and have my g15 up and active once more though.

I have a fan/dock. But my problem is the performance. I can't push the system any farther than 20 fps max. I also have no way to change the video card in the laptop seeing as its hardwired. I want to play bioshock and Assassin's Creed on my system but it just can't do it. DJ iz sad now...

I've got a Dell Latitude D830.
Core 2 Duo @ 2.4 GHz
4 GB RAM
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M / 512 MB
Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer for Bluetooth
Plantronics DSP-400 - USB Headset
And the FANG gamepad I linked to earlier

I play wired when possible, but 90% of the time I play wireless (good signal strength and you'll be fine)

Runs about everything I want to run on it. TF2 runs outstanding in most cases and frame lag is almost never an issue. When you get into trouble is when you try to run games while on battery. Even with every setting set to 'performance' instead of longer battery life, it is now my belief that ALL laptops running on batteries run slower than when plugged in. I guess it has something to do with the mobile versions of the processors and chipsets in laptops.

Plug it in to power to play, a cooling pad can't hurt either. I got this one: Newegg.com - Antec Black Notebook Cooler w/ Two Ball-bearing Fans Model NOTEBOOKCOOLER - Laptop Accessories

When all else fails make it take the good ol' 3 1/2" floppy.

...Reminds me of my tastes in women, much like computers, 12 years old dirty, white and have no problems with accepting a 3 1/2"
