| | TF2 Performance decrease I used to get roughly 50-60 fps on TF2, I now get 10-20 and I have no idea why. Anyone else see this strange decrease in performance?

2. Defrag your HDD. Accessing all that porn is fragmenting the hell out of your PC.
3. Spyware Check. Plus side, you can watch your porn while doing this.
4. Virus Check. Same as 3 except it takes longer so save your porn series for this.
5. Uinstall/reinstall new drivers and reinstall TF2. You may have corrupted something.
6. Reinstall Windows. Sucks but this is usually the #1 fix for any Windows related problem.

Did you update your vid drivers to those that are supposed to suck? I know steam sucks up my ram pretty hard when left going for a couple days. That along with my son opening god knows what while i'm work, I usually have to do a daily restart of the comp to even have a hope of getting 10+ fps. |

But then I remembered that we're talking about Faktor, and all was OK in the thread. |

That's a pretty large dip in FPS. Try giving the inside of your computer case a good cleaning (specifically the heatsinks, fans and ram on your GPU). Your hard drive isn't starting to make a death rattle, is it?

I luckily caught the HUGE deal radio shack was having on Thermaltake products about 3 weeks ago. I bought fan sound dampening material and 120mm/80mm fan filters for less than $2 each. They usually go for $10-20 but thank god Radio Shack was having a clearance sale. I also bought 4 thermaltake HDD coolers for $3 each (usually $25 each).
I'm not sure if they're still having the sale but you may want to go check. They had their CPU liquid cooling kit on sale from $150 down to $70 also but I heard the pump is really horrible and cheap. They were also selling Video card liquid cooling blocks for $20 from $50.

I have found ways around it, like removing water effects or playing the game just as soon as my computer turns on. I dunno really what to do anymore so I just dont play. |

| | Re: TF2 Performance decrease Spyware, adware, dying things, more crap running while playing, heat, dry thermal paste, dead fans, cords blocking your air flow, dust, new drivers screwing up (that's for all new drivers not just video).
Downloading things won't affect your FPS unless you use some crazy take-up-all-my-resources-download manager thing.
Go search for a system monitor or something so you can see all your heat values and fan speeds (assuming you put the fans in the right connections, otherwise you'll have to figure out which is which). | |
