| |  Strange sound coming from pc.
When I start my computer I get a strange sound. I think it comes from my dvd player cuz whenever I put my hand on top of my pc the sound sounds diffrently. This only happens when I start my pc. It goes away after a few reboots. I maybe think that something is lose and vibrates on the metal inside of the computer. I dont think it affects my computers preformance but it's really anoying. It kinda sounds like a wasp or something only much more louder. Thanks  . |

When I had a new radeon 9600 pro the fan kept running against something for the few first months, so I advice you to check all of your coolling fans. |

There are two things it can be.
1. Fans. This could be on the processor, case, or video card.
2. Lose hard drive mount or hard drive going out. Likely not this one because you would notice the performance hit.

When that happened to me tony it was one of my cooling fans inside, i repalced it and everythin was fine. |

Just keep the case open when booting up, steady the optical drives with your hand, that will tell you if it is one of those making the noise. if not, unplug each of your fans one at a time until you find the culprit.
On my old computer, the video card fan (9600xt) began whining. I took off the manufac. sticker on top of the card fan, which gives a direct shot to the bearings at the center of the fan. I dropped in one drop of mineral oil with a toothpick onto the fan bearing, and then put a small piece of tape over it. Tiny fix, but it made the noise stop for years, I mean I have now given that rig to my mom and still the sound has not come back

some great suggestions above, but you may just have a very large wasps nest in your computer containing some very loud wasps. Go to your local PC store and ask for a bucket of PC-wasp-away-grease and apply liberally to your computer, mouse, keyboard, monitor and your chair.

It sounds like the DVD drive is off balance, should be easy to make sure though, just start the PC without anything in the drive and see if it still makes the noise. |

My case use to vibrate a bit because of a slightly off fan mounting that I couldn't really fix. Solution? I put a stack of these on top of my case: |

If I hit my pc on the side it stops for a period of time then the sounds starts again. After a while of hiting the pc as soon as the sound start it stops, kinda, or time. I can turn it in (Still has a year of warrenty left  ) and see if they can fix it. But I*m thinking it should be easy enough to fix my self. I will open it up tommorow again and see if I can fix it. |

Ok I did it today and I couldnt find anything (Maybe cuz I dont know what I'm looking for =P). So I'm probably gonna leave it to the warrenty guys. | |
