Alright, to start things off, it is possible to have a gaming laptop. My current laptop can handle most new stuff at full graphics, just not the vista only stuff.

Anyway, here's the specs:
Brand: Alienware
Motherboard: Aurora m9700
OS: Windows XP Media Center
Processor: AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology ML-34 1809 MHz
RAM: 1 Gig
Video: 2X NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS 256MB
Sound: Nothing too special, but some Klipsch speakers and sub on desk used when working from desk. The onboard stuff sounded good, but the speakers started sounding like crap after playing some stuff too loud. This lappy has some surround and optic stuff that I haven't been making use of.
HDD: Dual 120GB in RAID 0, resulting in 240GB with faster access.
Display: 17" widescreen 1440x900 laptop display

With a battery life a little over an hour, this thing serves well as a portable computer, just not good as a straight up laptop. I've had very little trouble with it over the time that I've had it and have yet to completely fill the hard drives.

of course gaming laptops exist, the problem is that they usually have a secondary function as a heating pad and/or workout device at being around 10-15lbs or so

Heh. Personally I spent nothing on this rig. It was a graduation present from my folks that cost about $3,000. For lack of better words, I talked them into it and convinced them it would help me with schoolwork. And here I am up at 3:00 in the morning when I have to be up in 4 hours. That aside, I'm really glad that I have a computer that can handle something better than minesweeper or solitaire.

Do I detect a hint of smoke coming from the Power Supply (just kidding). Nice!! I would think that would run Crysis on a 30" screen with no problem????

generous folks you have there KillerRobotDude... weird, my xps 1530 runs crysis just fine with only a single 258MB video card... its only 4 pounds in weight too, cost about a grand less than that alienware machine. go figure. usb cooling pad comes in handy alright but not absolutely necessary, lappy doesn't get all that hot without it.

Wow...when I graduated, the only thing I got from my folks was a "See ya!" (And I was damned glad to get that)

To be honest, I haven't had much trouble with everything, just getting the game running at full graphics here and there. Getting Doom 3 to run on it was rather difficult, seeing as there was no widescreen support. The Bioshock demo I downloaded that was for vista didn't run too well either. TF2 and the other Steam stuff runs fine and dandy at full graphics. I might have to look into Crysis and see how well that runs...
