Banned for name

I was banned just a little while ago by Absolution -V- for ten days because of my name on the dodgeball server. I've been on the server since August, and have never had anyone complain about my name before. Absolution was the only one that had said anything. I politely declined, as this is the name I always use.

As an admin on another server, I understand that you have to be careful with people's names. But my name isn't offensive, unless you're a Catholic Tomato. Absolution never took into account that I may be Jewish, or that I may be a pickle. I'm not asking for him or her to be punished in any way, I would just like to be unbanned, please.

While even though supposedly no one has complained about it, when you asked me why you needed to change your name, someone immediately said 'racist' even before I even gave you a reason. Be aware that people may not voice their complaints even if they find it offensive.

We have also had African Americans come onto the server and spew racist talk and were surprised when they were banned. It doesn't matter if you are African American, or in this case, [maybe] Jewish.

Though for a good, and slightly amusing (are you really a pickle?), banned complaint thread, I'll reduce the ban by 8 days.

Just be aware that there are rules that everyone needs to follow regardless of how long they've been playing on the servers.

If I connected and saw your name, I would've done the same as Abso. It's offensive and against the rules. And I'm not too sure you do understand about being careful with people's names as you claim.

With due respect to both of you, I've been on when other admins were on, and they had no problem with my name. I just find it hard to believe that since I started coming on the server in August, it took until January for someone to deem my name offensive.


I would just like to know, how is my name offensive? If it was Christian Cucumber, would it be offensive then? Islamic Apple? Buddhist Banana?

Because "Jew"--anything (and even "Islamic"--anything) is a racially/religiously charged term that is very different from the others you mention. I recommend you change your name to something less provocative.

But it's only provocative if you want it to be that way. I can just as easily say that you're name is offensive because of the stigma that surrounds people that have schizophrenia.

I think this whole thing is ridiculous. If he wanted to kick me, fine. But a 10 day ban, even an 8 day ban is way excessive. And now you want me to change my name every time I go between your server and mine? I'm sorry, but that's not going to happen. No one else has ever found it offensive. It's not meant to be offensive. It only is if you want it to be. And if that's the case, well, then a lot of names can be offensive.

The word 'jew' is rarely used in any context other than derogatory. If your name was 'Jewish Pickle', I wouldn't really have a problem with it.

If you think changing your name is too rediculous, then it seems like you've made your decision and will eventually get perminately banned for it.

Firstly, as Absolution has mentioned, not all players voice their opinions.

Secondly, as an admin for another server, you should also be aware of what is considered politically correct and what isn't. Apparently you are not.

Finally, if you can't follow our rules, then you can find somewhere else to play. Our rules are set for a specific reason, and they have been followed through by our admins for years. If you can't seem to understand that, especially as a fellow admin (an enforcer of server rules), then you have no business playing here.

You have two choices:

1. You can change your name and come back (after the ban has been lifted) to play on our servers.

or

2. You can keep your name, come back (after the ban has been lifted), and subsequently receive a lengthier (or permanent) ban.

I've seen to many people say "f'n jew" and other nasty things that I really don't like seeing, I don't like the slang word.

The thing I'm worried about is when someone tries to reference you when talking to you or about you, they will probably just say "jew" and other players that see it or are listening in may misunderstand what was just said.

I could probably make an exception for "Jewish Pickles".
